Tips
1.
Hanging and folding clothing
·
Fold
clothing items costing $2 or less.
·
Hang
clothing items costing $3 or more.
·
Place clothing on hanger with hook facing left.
·
Pants and skirts should be secured to hangers with safety
pins.
·
Be
sure items are SECURE on their hangers. Add extra pins if
needed. Items won’t sell if they have fallen under the racks.
·
2-piece outfits: Pin the bottoms to the hanger and place the
shirt or jacket over top. If that doesn’t work, place the top
on the hanger and pin the bottoms to the back of the top. Be
sure the outfit stays together and on the hanger!
·
Some stores will give you hangers for children’s clothing, and
many dry cleaners will give you wire hangers. The SaleBoat
sells hangers with clothing. We cannot return them to you.
·
Fold
individual items and pajamas.
·
Make sure clothing is clean and pressed.

Tagging items

|
·
Use ONLY colored 3x5 index cards to tag all items.
·
Turn card vertically and print consignor # and size
one inch down from the top of the card.
·
Print description (Ex. GAP shirt and shorts, 2 piece
set) and price of item in the center of the card.
·
Place a safety pin in the blank area at the top of the card.
·
Safety pin card to the top right side of clothing.
·
When an item sells, the cashier tears off the card beneath the
safety pin. Cards are filed by consignor number and used to
determine profits after the sale.
3.
Pricing items
·
A
general rule for pricing your item is to figure 30-40% of the
original price. The condition of the item will lower or raise
that figure.
·
Use only whole dollar increments (this means no items under
$1.00)
4.
Preparing shoes
·
SHOES MUST BE IN GREAT (not good) CONDITION!
·
Bring
no more than 5 of your very best pairs. No scuffs. No worn out
tennis shoes.
·
Shoes
must be securely connected together - zip ties work well.
If you are unable to secure shoes together, place them in a
ziplock bag.
·
Tag must also be secured to shoes. Attach card to zip tie, or
place tag in a ziplock bag that can be attached to shoes.
·
The goal is to keep pairs together with tags securely attached.
5.
Preparing toys, books, videos, large equipment &
furniture
·
After filling out your 3x5 index card, place it in a zip-lock
bag.
·
Tape the bag securely to the item, leaving the zipper part of
the bag untaped. This will make it easy to take the card out
at checkout.
·
Use clear packing tape only.
·
If
toys have loose pieces, place the pieces in a zip-lock bag.
Attach the bag to the item as securely as possible. We cannot
be responsible for lost pieces.
·
Items that require batteries MUST have batteries included.
6.

8. Tips
·
Wash, iron, starch, button buttons, zip zippers. This makes a
difference!
·
Group items together, they’ll sell better. (Outfits that go
together; 2 shirts, same style and size, different colors)
When possible, put grouped items on the same hanger. Put the
first item on the hanger and attach the other item to the back
with safety pins.
·
Styles change, particularly for older children and maternity.
If it was very stylish a few years ago, it won’t sell now.
·
When choosing items for the sale, think “gently used”
not “garage sale.” If you have doubts about something,
leave it at home.
·
Don’t forget to make your appointment for drop-off!
